About Public Holidays World
Public holidays, long weekends and bridge days for 246 countries and territories.
We do not edit or add holiday dates by hand, and municipal holidays are shown only where our data includes them.Official government announcements take precedence.
How holidays are classified
- Nationwide: public holidays for the whole country, or for every subdivision.
- Regional: public holidays only in some states, provinces, cantons or regions.
- Local: public holidays only in a city or local area.
- Group: official days off for part of the population:Albanian community, Armenian community, Bosniak community, Catholic, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Orthodox Christian, Protestant, Roma community, Sabian-Mandaean, Serbian community, Turkish community, Vlach community, Yazidi.
Bank, school, government, optional, unofficial and similar categories are not shown yet. Only nationwide holidays are used for the countdown, long weekends and bridge days.
Estimated dates
Some holidays depend on moon sighting or lunar calendars (for example Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha). Where a date is estimated, we label it: the date may shift by 1-2 days until officially announced.
Long weekends and bridge days
A long weekend is three or more consecutive days off made of nationwide holidays and the country’s weekend days (not every country has a Saturday-Sunday weekend). A bridge day is a single working day between a nationwide holiday and a weekend: take one day off to get several days in a row.
Leave planner
Each country page has a leave planner. Choose how many leave days you can take for one break and it lists the breaks that give the most days off in a row around nationwide holidays and weekends, and marks the leave days on the year calendar.
Holiday descriptions
Short descriptions of what a holiday marks and how it is celebrated are written by us for the main holidays of selected countries. They are general background, not official information; customs vary by region and family.
Weather and trip ideas
Typical weather is the average for each calendar day over 2015–2024 for the area around each place. These are past averages, not forecasts. Weather forecasts cover the next days, and holidays and trip dates up to about 9 days ahead.
“Where to go” ideas for popular long weekends are chosen and written by us. They are not sponsored. Where flights for a holiday were historically cheapest at a certain time, we show it; past patterns do not guarantee future prices.
World clock
Your browser applies current UTC offsets and daylight saving, so clock changes appear on the map automatically. The day and night shading is calculated from the sun’s position.
Languages
The main pages are available in 26 languages. The interface texts were translated with the help of AI and may contain mistakes; corrections are welcome. Holiday names are shown in your language where our data provides them, otherwise in English together with the local name. Dates and country names come from the language data built into your browser.
