About Revolution Day

Revolution Day marks the start of the Mexican Revolution on 20 November 1910, the date Francisco I. Madero set in his Plan of San Luis for an uprising against the long rule of Porfirio Díaz. The revolution led to a decade of conflict and to the Constitution of 1917. Since 2006 the holiday has been observed on the third Monday of November.

Traditions

Official ceremonies are held, and in some years Mexico City has hosted a parade with military and sports displays. Schools often stage events in which children dress as revolutionary figures, and the Monument to the Revolution in Mexico City is a focus of commemorations.
