About Victory Day

Victory Day on 30 August commemorates the Battle of Dumlupınar in 1922, the decisive battle of the Great Offensive in the Turkish War of Independence. The victory, achieved under the command of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, led to the end of the war and prepared the way for the founding of the Republic. The day is also celebrated as the day of the Turkish Armed Forces.

Traditions

Official and military ceremonies are held in many cities, and wreaths are laid at monuments to Atatürk and to those who died in the war. The national flag is displayed widely on buildings and in public spaces.
