About National Day
1 May is a public holiday in Poland, officially called simply the State Holiday, Święto Państwowe, and widely known as Labour Day, Święto Pracy. It honours workers and the labour movement, as May Day does in many other countries. The day is followed on 2 May by Flag Day, which is not a public holiday.
Traditions
For most people the day is the start of the majówka, a popular long break that combines 1 May with the Constitution Day holiday on 3 May. Many people travel, go to the countryside or hold barbecues, and some trade unions and political groups organise gatherings.
