About Easter Monday
Easter Monday, Deftera tou Pascha, follows Orthodox Easter Sunday, the most important feast of the year in Greece, and extends the Easter holiday. Because Greece follows the Orthodox calendar, Easter often falls on a different date from Easter in Western churches.
Traditions
The Easter weekend begins with the Resurrection service late on Saturday night, when candles are lit and people greet each other with "Christos Anesti" (Christ is risen). Magiritsa soup is eaten after the service, and on Sunday families roast lamb on a spit and crack red-dyed eggs. Monday is generally spent relaxing with family and friends.
