About Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid)

Id-ul-Zuha, also known as Eid al-Adha or Bakrid, is the Islamic festival of sacrifice. It commemorates the willingness of the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It falls on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the month of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, and its date depends on the lunar calendar.

Traditions

Muslims attend morning congregational prayers and, where possible, sacrifice an animal such as a goat. The meat is customarily divided between the household, relatives and friends, and people in need. Families visit one another and share festive meals.
