About All Saints' Day

In Portugal, All Saints' Day, Dia de Todos os Santos, is a day for honouring the saints and remembering the dead. It was one of four public holidays suspended between 2013 and 2015 as an austerity measure, and it has been observed again since 2016.

Traditions

Many families visit cemeteries to place flowers on the graves of relatives. In a long-standing custom known as Pão-por-Deus, children go from door to door in the morning asking for bread, cakes, nuts or sweets.
