About Epiphany

In Spain, Epiphany is known as the Día de Reyes, the day of the Three Kings, or Magi, who according to Christian tradition brought gifts to the infant Jesus. For many Spanish families it is the main gift-giving day of the Christmas season and marks its close.

Traditions

On the evening of 5 January, towns hold cavalcades in which the Three Kings parade through the streets and throw sweets to the crowds. Children leave out their shoes before going to bed and find presents the next morning. The day is often celebrated with a roscón de reyes, a ring-shaped sweet bread with a small figurine hidden inside.
